Warm, hearty and comforting split pea soup with ham is the perfect recipe for chilly days when bellies need warming!

Split Pea Soup with Ham

Ingredients

  • 1 20 oz. bag Hurst’s HamPeas Green Split Peas with flavor packet

  • 1 cup onion, chopped

  • 1 cup carrot, diced

  • 3 tbsp butter

  • 1 lb. diced ham

  • 10 cups of water

Cooking Directions

  1. Place rinsed split peas, onion, carrot, and butter in a large pot along with 10 cups of water. If using meat, add at this time.

  2. Bring to a boil, cover with lid and continue boiling for 30 minutes.

  3. After 30 minutes, add contents of seasoning packet to the pot, reduce heat to simmer and cover with lid for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  4. Remove lid and simmer for 10 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.

  5. After cooking, remove from heat and let soup stand uncovered for 10 minutes

Tips

For thicker consistency, use 8-9 cups of water/broth.

For smoother soup, use an immersion blender to puree for desired consistency.

Serve hot with a garnish of croutons.
