Slow Cooker Bacon & Beans

Great for your next backyard BBQ! These beans are perfect for a side dish next to your burgers and dogs, but they also work great by themselves as a complete meal. Try the suggested "Cowboy Style" for a spicy version of these crock pot beans.

  • 15.5 oz. bag Hurst's® Slow Cooker Bacon & Beans

  • 8 cups water

  • 1 lbs bacon strips, cut into 1/4" pieces

  • 1 medium white onion, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • OPTIONAL ADD-INS BELOW (add same time as seasoning)

  • "Southern Style"- 6 oz. your favorite BBQ sauce, 1/4 cup cider vinegar, 1/4 brown sugar.

  • "Cowboy Style"- 14.5 oz. can tomatoes, 4 oz. can green chiles, 1 tbsp. chili powder, hot sauce to taste

  • "New England Style"- 1/2 cup molasses, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 tsp. dry ground mustard

Cooking Directions

  1. Rinse and sort through the dry beans. Check for any unwanted debris and discard.

  2. In a large sauté pan, cook bacon over medium heat until completely browned. Remove crispy bacon from the pan and set aside on paper towel covered plate.

  3. Pour rinsed beans into slow cooker. Add bacon, onion, garlic and 8 cups of water.

  4. Put lid on slow cooker and cook on high for 4-5 hours (or low for 8-9 hours).

  5. When beans are tender, add Hurst's seasoning packet (plus optional add-ins) and cook on low for an additional 30 minutes.

  6. Keep on "warm" or lowest setting until ready to serve.


Remove lid after adding seasoning if you prefer a thicker consistency

Omit the bacon to make these vegetarian... the smoky bacon flavor seasoning gives you a lot of great flavor!
